What you should know about your Dental Health during the Holidays....
SUGAR (our favorite thing this time of year) provides energy for the bacteria that is left in our mouth after eating. If not taken care of properly, the combination of sugar and bacteria, over time, lead to tooth decay and before you know it, you have a cavity. Please read the following tips to keep your smile healthy during the upcoming holiday season.
1. Eat sweets in moderation.
2. When you eat sweets, be sure you brush your teeth afterwards to remove the excess sugar. If you are in a situation where you cannot brush, rinse with a glass of water.
3. If you have excessive dental work such as crowns, fillings, or braces, try to avoid sticky and chewy treats. For example, Caramel or taffy. These types of candies can pull your dental work out. Not what you want to have to worry about during the holiday season.
4. Also, be careful with hard treats. For example, nuts and peanut brittle. These types of foods are the #1 way to break a tooth.
5. As Always....REMEMBER to BRUSH YOUR TEETH! The holidays are a busy time but do not neglect your dental health.
